Put a hearty pasta dinner on the table with a simple plan you can follow. Stockyards Smoked Tomato Marinara Sauce from Garnish & Gather gives your meal rich tomato flavor and a smoky finish, so you can focus on cooking and sharing it with the people you love.

Whole, diced, and crushed tomatoes, fresh vegetables, garlic, herbs, olive oil, and a touch of brown sugar come together in a thick, chunky sauce. Warm it for pasta, or use the recipe below to make your own hearty meat sauce.

Your meat-sauce recipe by jar size

Start with 1/2 pound of ground beef per 16 ounces of marinara. This gives you a hearty meat sauce while keeping the tomato flavor at the center. Choose your jar size below and use the full jar.

Marinara jar size Ground beef, measured raw
4 oz 2 oz
8 oz 1/4 pound
16 oz 1/2 pound
32 oz 1 pound

These amounts are a starting point; adjust the beef-to-sauce balance to your taste.

Brown, simmer, and serve

  1. Brown and crumble the ground beef in a skillet. Cook it to 160°F, checked with a food thermometer, then drain excess grease.
  2. Stir in the marinara. Simmer gently, covered, for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Because the sauce is thick, add water or reserved pasta water 1 tablespoon at a time until it coats your pasta easily.
  4. Toss with pasta cooked according to its package directions. Finish with Parmesan or basil if you like.

Bring your dinner together

Add a green salad or roasted vegetables, set the pasta on the table, and invite everyone to help themselves. You have made a comforting meal; now take your seat and enjoy it with them.

For another evening, use the marinara in lasagna, on pizza, with meatballs, or as a warm dip for breadsticks.
